Classroom Centered
Read Richard's 10-point 'Pledge to Georgia Educators'
* Weigh Policy Decisions Based on Classroom Impact. The classroom is
where schools have the greatest impact on education. Our decisions must be
classroom centered.
* Build on the Basics. We must demand a mastery of reading, writing, and
math in grades K-5. Work with nonprofit and corporate sponsors to promote
reading prior to entering school. Strengthen the academic expectations of
Pre-K standards and ensure a smooth transition from Pre-K to Kindergarten.
* Flexible Curriculum. We must have standards that can be adequately
covered in the course of a school year and allow time for mastery,
remediation, and acceleration. Reject standards that do not adequately
prepare our students educationally.
* Allow Teachers to Teach. Strive to put joy back into teaching and
discipline and learning back into the classroom.
